"Motoring writer and lecturer in automotive journalism. Live half way up a Clee hill."

I'm a motoring writer. I've been writing about cars and motorsport for more than 20 years, during which time I've tested everything from Citroen 2CV-powered three-wheelers to two-seat Formula 1 cars. I've driven all sorts of 4x4, from Land Rover and other makes. I started out writing technical articles for car magazines, then edited one for six years. I went freelance in 2002 and since then I've written road tests, technical articles, drive stories, classic car tests, consumer features, interviews and more for all sorts of media. My Defender - a 1995 300tdi pickup - arrived in 2009 shortly after I moved to an old stone cottage in the depths of south Shropshire. In winter we're miles from the nearest gritted road, and the rest of the time we need a vehicle to pull trailers of hardcore, transport wood for the stove, move stacks of cut turf - and it's even earned its keep by shifting felled trees.
